Hi everyone! Happy end of May!
The Body Shop has been a household name for years, at least in my house. It all started when I was younger and their signature Tea Tree Oil was introduced into my life following my first breakouts. Since then, I’ve never not had a Body Shop product in my skincare or haircare routine. Another thing I love about The Body Shop is that they’re very affordable, have a wide range of products and are also cruelty free.
If you have oily, acne-prone skin or are just looking to try something new, here are my favourites!
The Tea Tree Range
I’m going to recommend their entire tea tree range and if you’ve got oily skin, you’ll completely understand why.
My favourite is of course, the tea tree oil. Every time I get a spot, I will soak it in the tea tree oil and if the spot is particularly big, I’ll put a COSRX pimple patch over it. This concentrated tea tree oil helps kill bacteria as well as heal blemishes. It also smells lovely!
Another staple from their collection is their tea tree mattifying lotion. I use it as a moisturiser every day underneath my makeup as I find it doesn’t leave a sticky layer which I love as my skin is an actual oil slick. It helps control the oil production better than most other moisturisers and the bottle isn’t huge, so it’s very travel friendly.
Their tea tree toner is awesome! I wouldn’t recommend this for dry skin as it really does mattify after application. This toner requires a bit of a shake before use – and one bottle seems to last a lifetime. The only downside to this product that puts me off it a bit is that it contains alcohol – and one should always try to avoid toners with alcohol. An alcohol-free alternative would be Lush’s Tea Tree Water, but it is slightly more expensive. If alcohol doesn’t go well with your skin, I would avoid this toner.
Finally, another great item from the range is the tea tree imperfection daily solution. This serum-like product in a dropper bottle is great for a nightly treatment. It isn’t harsh and doesn’t suck all the hydration out of your skin like most other tea tree serums seem to do for me. I use it every night before moisturiser.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Gel Moisture Cream
I can’t say enough good things about this moisturiser! I was at first scared to wander out of the tea-tree range as that range is made for my acne prone skin, but when I tried this moisturiser I was in love!
I use it only at night as it can be a bit too hydrating for day use for me, and I use the “gel moisture cream” version – which is more appropriate for oily/combo skin. There are also other version – “moisture cream”, “intense moisture cream” and “night cream” in this range. Find the one most appropriate for your skin and you’ll love this product too!
I especially love the smell. Slightly floral, slightly like a spa.
Honourable mention to their Vitamin E face wash – love it for night time!
Himalayan Charcoal Mask and Face Wash
Eureka! The Body Shop has created one of my favourite masks of all time. The Himalayan Charcoal mask is soooo good for purifying and generally cleansing your face.
When I first tried it over a year ago, it stung my face quite a bit but I kinda liked it? Not in a weird way, but more like I felt it was doing a great job pulling all the gunk out of my face. Because it is a clay mask, I would say it’s more suitable for oily skin but I’ve also seen people with normal to dry skin say this has worked wonders. Also because of the consistency, it would be best to screw the lid on really tight as it can dry up very fast. I made this mistake with my first tub and didn’t screw the lid on tightly enough which made the mask go off a lot faster than it should have.
Last but not least, some body skincare products!
British Rose Body Yoghurt
I love British Rose scented products by The Body Shop. The first time I heard of the concept of a British Rose Body Yoghurt I was SUPER intrigued – especially since it promised to be fast absorbing and non-sticky.
The product is exactly as described. Because of how lightweight it is, I use it in the day time before I have to put a pair of jeans on because it feels like almost nothing. In the night time I would opt for something more moisturising. If you’re living in a humid country like Singapore, this is perfect for it.
I also went through one tub pretty quickly which I actually like, because it gives me the chance to try new things and I hate throwing things out when there’s still product in it.
There seems to be a whole lot of great new products that I have never tried coming out with The Body Shop – I’ve been following their Instagram account closely and it looks like a cucumber range is on the way and it sounds perfect for me as cucumber is known to be cooling and I always have a very high body temperature.
