The Crystal Deodorant Stone – An Honest Review

I’ve been trying to be as eco conscious as I can for the past year or so. Investing in lots of metal straws, not taking plastic bags from shops, and more.

Bamboo Straw Girl is a Singaporean local company that I’ve followed on Instagram for a very long time. I bought my first ever bamboo and metal straws from her, and I continue to support the store online.

Disclaimer – this is NOT a sponsored post.

I first heard about the deodorant stone while browsing her Instagram stories and it intrigued me so much because I had genuinely never heard of such a thing. It also looked like a strange rectangular ice cube, or a very clear bar of…. something! What in the world was this?

I decided to give it a try and I bought one off her website for only $13 which is equivalent to about 7 GBP. 3 months later and I’ve never regretted it even once!

What Is It?

A deodorant stone is a stone made up of natural mineral salts with the main ingredient being potassium alum. It is not the same as aluminium chloride and aluminium chlorohydrate, which are commonly found in antiperspirants that people want to avoid. Potassium alum is not an anti-perspirant nor does it claim to reduce sweat production. It sits on the surface of the skin, is anti-bacterial and does not allow bad odours.

It is about 6cm x 4cm in size but I’m guessing it varies as this is a handmade product. It is not heavy and sits nicely on a saucer or small dish.

It comes wrapped in grease-proof paper and a label which tells you what to do with it.

How Do I Use It?

I researched a lot into how to use this bizarre item and thankfully BambooStrawGirl has a whole Instagram story highlight dedicated to this marvellous stone!

The stone sits snugly in the palm of your hand and the way to use it is to wet one of the surfaces with water and apply it to your underarms! It is honestly as simple as that.

On the website, it states you can also use it for your feet. I have a reused spray bottle filled with water that I use to spray on this everyday as I keep it in my room instead of my bathroom and I don’t want to be walking up and down in the morning from my bedroom to the bathroom to use this as I’m getting ready for work, so a spray bottle made the most sense to me.

You are also advised to keep this stone away from water – don’t soak it or leave it in a wet dish as it may dissolve, it is fully made of salts after all!

Does It Work?

I’ve never used a non-scented deodorant item in my life before this stone as I’m someone who heavily relies on nice scents on myself or around me. I was definitely skeptical. Would I stink at the end of the day? To my surprise, I didn’t!

This definitely works!

Believe me, I am as surprised as you are! Never did I think a simple salty stone would help curb any sweaty stenches that would erupt from me in one of the most humid countries in the world but I honestly have never smelled of nothing (which is a good thing), even after I’ve broken a sweat! I’m not someone who stinks in general but you can’t always smell nice especially after perspiring.

I’ve had this item for about 3 to 4 months now, have been using it every single day and it still looks the same as it did when I first got it – how amazing? Really makes the $13 worth it and $13 isn’t even that much for an item that can last seemingly forever.

Final Thoughts

I’m very happy to have discovered this product and I have stopped using all other underarm deodorants that I used to love. I’ve used sprays, sticks and balms and honestly this crystal deodorant stone has worked the best for me. Not only is it non sticky, non staining and lightweight, it also really works with controlling odours.

I would highly recommend anyone to buy this for themselves or their friends and family to see for yourself. Since it is also a very pretty and aesthetically pleasing item, having it around the house would never be an eyesore. Christmas is 3 months away, you might want to include this in your list of things to get your friends, it is a great unique gift idea.

Like my review for the Himalayan Salt lamp, please do not let your pets near this item!

What did you think of my honest review? Did you expect a positive or negative outcome?

  1. Oh wow I have never heard of a crystal deodorant stone before & just by looking at it, I didn’t expect it to work, but it’s great that it actually does! It’s also amazing that it looks the same after using it every day for several months!

  2. I’ve tried so many natural deodorants with mixed results, and I have tried something similar from Same, but the darn tube it was in broke and I couldn’t really use long enough to make up my mind. I would definitely try this. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Wow I’ve never seen a deodorant like this! In the US many of our “natural” deodorants come in a traditional deodorant tube or in a jar (if they’re a super soft formula). But this sounds like a much better alternative to what I’ve seen here, so now I need to see if I can find something similar!!

  4. Wow, I am super surprised! I have never heard of anything remotely like this; the closest I can think of is a deodorant bar.

I love that this is so easy to use, that it works, and that it lasts while remaining potent.
    Thanks for sharing!

  5. I have used a crystal bar (not the same product) but I didn’t find it overly effective sadly.
I might have to give this one a go 🙂
For now I have made my own deo to help the environmental impacts and that is working so well!

  6. I am totally fascinated by this product! I’ve heard of what feels like a trillion different “natural” deodorants or antiperspirants, but I’ve never heard of a salt crystal like this. It sounds so intriguing. I’d definitely be interested in giving this a try, because what I’ve heard about other products is that you can still smell terrible, even if they curb the sweat – and I really don’t want to smell terrible haha! Great review!

  8. This is the first time I am seeing this. Just like you, I always use scented deodorants, so I was surprised by your results (In a good way). I was even more surprised that you could use it for your feet? I was not sure if I read that right and had to read it twice. But wow, I am truly amazed. This is a fun product that I would love to use just because it is super weird for me and I want to give a try. Plus, you said it works well for you. 😀

Thank you for a great review and for sharing this product. This is my first time seeing this. Got to learn a lot of things here. Thanks! 🙂
